• Massive cast-iron construction:
All Haas CNC machines are built utilizing American-made cast-iron components, which provide up to ten times the damping capacity of steel. Haas castings are internally reinforced with numerous heavy ribs to resist flex and damp vibrations, and each one is thoroughly inspected to ensure it is free of flaws.
30-pocket side-mount tool changer:
The EC-1600 comes standard with a 30-pocket SMTC that handles tools weighing up to 30 lb (13.6 kg). Max tool diameter with all pockets filled is 4" (102 mm). With adjacent pockets empty, tools up to 10" (254 mm) diameter may be loaded.
• Powerful 30-horsepower (22-kilowatt) vector drive spindle:
The Haas-designed vector drive coupled with a high-precision gearbox produces the fastest, most powerful spindle output ever. This true closed-loop system doubles low-speed torque and accelerations. Maximum torque for the standard 30-hp (22-kW), 50-taper spindle is a robust 450 ft-lb (610 Nm) at 500 rpm.
• High-performance, two-speed gearbox:
All Haas gears are CNC machined and hobbed out of 8620 steel, then heat treated to 60 Rc and precision CNC ground to AGMA Class 13 quality. This massive, Haas-made gearbox provides plenty of torque for the heaviest cutting conditions.
Double-anchored ballscrews:
Haas uses only premium-quality ballscrews and guides that meet the highest quality standards in the industry. Haas ballscrews are anchored at both ends and pre-tensioned, then inspected for 100% parallelism to the axis guides.
• Hardened-steel bearing packs:
Haas uses hardened-steel bearing packs rolling on hardened-steel ways. Built using the same precision grinding technology utilized in bearing manufacturing, they feature zero clearance and full load-carrying capacity in all directions.
• 100% ball bar testing before shipping:
Haas uses a stringent ball bar test that not only checks linear accuracy, but also the machine geometry. This ensures the three-dimensional squareness and accuracy of each machine.
• Full 4th-axis platter:
The optional full 4th axis has a 30" (762 mm) platter diameter and weight capacity up to 10,000 lb (4536 kg). This makes it easy to machine all four sides of very large parts in only one setup.
5-degree face gear indexer:
This optional indexing table uses a face gear coupler – a design that yields superior indexing accuracy and establishes super-high rigidity for off-center milling and drilling/tapping operations. The indexer positions the pallet at precise 5° increments, guaranteeing maximum repeatability and stability.
• 50-pocket side-mount tool changer:
The EC-1600 is available with a 50-pocket SMTC that yields a 51-tool capacity (50 in the carousel plus one in the spindle). The tool size and weight capacities are identical to the standard ATC.
• Sheet metal enclosure:
Keep your work area cleaner and safer with an optional enclosure. Heavy-duty, 14-gauge sheet metal keeps chips and coolant contained. The enclosure comes with wide doors and an open roof for extra-large parts. This option includes a coolant system with 80-gallon capacity, as well as dual chip augers.
• 30 hp (22 kW), 10K geared-head spindle:
This 10,000-rpm spindle for 50-taper machines provides a wide constant horsepower band, good low-speed torque for heavy cuts, and higher torque throughout the range above 500 rpm. (This option requires balanced tool holders with a G2.5 rating.)
• Through-spindle coolant:
The Haas through-spindle coolant options improve tool life and allow higher speeds, deep hole drilling and blind pocket milling. The result is high productivity and reduced cycle times. Haas engineers have designed a special seal which disengages when the system is not in use. This exclusive design feature extends the life of the system. The standard TSC option provides 300 psi at a flow rate of 1.5 gallons per minute, and 250 psi at 4 gpm. The 1000 psi option has a max flow rate of 6 gpm , and requires separate (customer-supplied) 3-phase power. In both systems, actual pressure will vary with the diameter of the coolant passages in the tool. Note that the enclosure option contains the flood coolant system and is therefore required for TSC.
High-speed machining:
The HSM option provides a powerful tool to reduce cycle times and improve accuracy. Using a motion algorithm called ”acceleration before interpolation,“ combined with full look-ahead of up to 80 blocks, HSM provides fast contouring feeds without distortion of the programmed path. The Haas HSM option accepts ISO standard G code, and is a fraction of the cost of other high-speed controls.
Visual Quick Code programming system:
Visual Quick Code uses a graphical interface that makes creating simple G-code programs almost effortless. First select the operation you want (e.g., bolt-hole circle or pocket milling), and then choose a part template from the display. VQC will prompt you to fill in part dimensions, speeds and feeds, etc., and then generates the G-code program for the operation. Modify the existing templates or create your own. VQC includes standard Quick Code as well – using a conversational interface, you can select English commands, such as ”spindle forward,“ from a menu, and the correct G code (M03 in this case) will be inserted into the program.
• VQC probing system:
Using the basic information entered through Visual Quick Code, machinists can quickly and easily create probe routines for tool setting and part setup, as well as in-process tool and part inspection and first-off part measurement. The VQCPS option requires an enclosure for OMI mounting and cable management.
• Programmable coolant nozzle:
P-Cool is a multi-position programmable nozzle that automatically directs coolant precisely at the part. The position of the nozzle is controlled via the part program, saving operator time by eliminating constant adjustments and allowing unattended operation. The nozzle can also be fine-tuned from the control pendant while a program is running.
• Hard disk drive & Ethernet interface w/USB support:
This option provides great flexibility in program transfer and storage. The 20 GB hard drive has ample storage space for program files, and the USB connection supports either a customer-supplied ZIP™ drive or flash memory device. The Ethernet component allows quick, easy data transmission between your Haas machine and a network or PC, and large files can be accessed by multiple machines. High-speed data transfers allow DNC of large files at up to 1000 blocks/sec. Ethernet interface works with Windows XP, ME, 2000 Pro & Server, NT 4.0, 98 and 95. IPX/SPX or TCP/IP protocol; easy setup from the control screen.

LED Beacon Light
The Haas-designed beacon light uses two rows of ultra-bright LEDS that can be seen from anywhere in the shop. The LEDs generate very little heat and have a life expectancy of more than 10 years.
Color LCD Screen
Our full-color TFT LCD display is designed to work in the machine shop environment. The high-intensity, high-contrast LCD features a very wide viewing angle, and will not fade out in bright light. The panel is mounted behind anti-glare tempered glass for protection and easy viewing.
Multi-FunctionJog Handle
Most machines use the jog handle only to move the axes around. On Haas machines, the jog handle can also be used in other modes to cursor through the program for faster editing, override spindle speeds and feedrates, or scan through offsets, parameters, etc.
One-Button Features
Common multi-step functions, such as powering up in the morning or setting tool offsets, have been reduced to the push of a single button. Other often used functions, such as setting part zeros, homing the machine, setting the offset to centerline and resetting the tool turret, are also one-button commands.

Advanced Program Editing

The Haas keypad has 131 keys. All common functions, including a full alphanumeric keypad, are clearly labeled for operator ease. There are no encrypted codes to memorize, and many functions can be performed simply with the push of a single button.
Stainless Steel Bezel
Constructed of heavy-gauge T304 stainless steel with a fine-grained finish, the bezel of the Haas control not only looks great, it’s easy to clean, resists wear and will not corrode.
