• Powerful 20-horsepower (15-kW) vector drive spindle:
A high-performance motor combined with the Haas-designed vector drive produces fast, powerful spindle output. Maximum torque for the standard 20-horsepower (15-kW) direct-drive spindle is 75 ft-lb (102 Nm) at 1400 rpm.

Dual fixture stations:
The MDC-500’s dual fixture stations hold 700 lb (318 kg) each. A gear-driven changer rotates the fixture stations in less than 5 seconds, and the operator can load/unload parts on one fixture while the machine mills, drills and taps parts on the other.

• High-speed tool changer:
The 24+1 side-mount tool changer takes just 2.2 seconds to change tools, keeping cycle time to a minimum.

• Coolant system:
The MDC-500 features a high-volume coolant pump and a 40-gallon (151-liter) coolant tank integrated into the base, so there’s plenty of coolant available for any machining operation.

Rigid tapping:
Using an encoder attached directly to the spindle, Z-axis motion is synchronized with the spindle’s rotation. This eliminates the need for expensive floating tap holders, and also prevents lead-thread distortion and start-thread pullout.

• High-speed spindles:
The latest high-speed spindles from Haas provide 10,000 or 15,000 rpm of cutting speed to take full advantage of the time savings and increased accuracy possible with today’s high-speed machining.

• High-speed machining:
The HSM option provides a powerful tool to improve both accuracy and surface finish for contoured parts. Using a motion algorithm called ”acceleration before interpolation,“ combined with full look-ahead of up to 80 blocks, HSM provides fast contouring feeds without distortion of the programmed path. The Haas HSM option accepts ISO standard G code, and is a fraction of the cost of other high-speed controls.
• Through-spindle coolant:
Optional TSC supplies coolant at up to 300 psi (psi varies with flow rate) to the cutting edge, for improved tool life, higher speeds, deep hole drilling and blind pocket milling. The Haas design includes a special seal that disengages when the TSC system isn’t being used, which extends the life of the system.

• Visual Quick Code:
Haas’ unique Visual Quick Code is a conversational programming system that uses a graphical interface to make creating simple G-code programs nearly effortless. VQC prompts the operator to fill in part dimensions, speeds and feeds, etc., and then generates the correct G-code program for the operation. The VQC option also includes standard Quick Code, in which English commands, such as “spindle forward,” are selected by the operator from a menu, and the corresponding G or M code (in this case M3) is then inserted into the program.

• Programmable coolant nozzle:
P-Cool is a multi-position programmable nozzle that automatically directs coolant precisely at the part. The operator doesn’t have to constantly open the machine doors to adjust coolant lines – nozzle position is controlled via the part program.

LED Beacon Light
The Haas-designed beacon light uses two rows of ultra-bright LEDS that can be seen from anywhere in the shop. The LEDs generate very little heat and have a life expectancy of more than 10 years.

Color LCD Screen
