A reactor vessel is designed to withstand the high temperatures and pressures, hold the nuclear fuel and provide the space for nuclear chain reactions. The cylindrical structure contains the reactor internals and is welded to semi-spherical bottom head assemblies.
The top, which is accessible for refueling and inspection purposes, is structured so that the removable, semispherical closure head can be fastened with high strength studs.
